In the Community

Reading Municipal Light Department has long held the philosophy that community is important. RMLD is committed to contributing to the towns we serve through a robust community relations program which incorporates education, participation, and community support.

Student Art Contests - RMLD's annual Elementary Student Art Contest has been a consistent element of the elementary level curriculum in our towns for over 25 years. In 2017, RMLD launched its annual High School Student Art Contest as a means to engage high school age students within the communities we serve.

Public Power Week Open House - Each year during Public Power Week, RMLD holds an Open House featuring lineman demos, fun kids' activities, and education on electrical safety and conservation. This event is a great opportunity for RMLD staff and RMLD customers to interact and get to know each other.

RMLD Historical Calendar - RMLD produces a wall calendar each year that showcases historical pictures from the four communities we serve. RMLD’s Historical Calendar is a favorite of local residents and is highly anticipated every December.

Customer Education - RMLD provides education on electrical safety, energy efficiency, and RMLD programs through its email communication program which includes a monthly e-newsletter and emails with targeted information that may benefit RMLD customers. In addition, RMLD holds regular educational events on a variety of topics at our local libraries and senior centers.

Community Involvement - To stay connected with the local business and non-profit community, RMLD actively participates in local Chamber of Commerce groups and Rotary Clubs. RMLD also regularly hosts children’s groups such as cub/girl scouts and STEM groups to provide a hands-on educational experience, and participates in several local community events such as local town days, touch-a-truck events, farmers markets, and more.
