Elementary Student Art Contest

Each year, RMLD works with the local schools to hold a student art contest for fourth graders in Reading, North Reading, Wilmington, and Lynnfield. The contest seeks to complement existing electricity curriculum and focuses on electrical safety, how electricity gets to the home, and electricity and the environment.

RMLD provides each school with art materials and an RMLD produced educational video covering the topics listed above. Teachers help their students to create a poster that showcases one of the themes covered in the video. Once the artwork is complete, schools are invited to submit their top 20 entries to RMLD. RMLD staff, board members, and/or community volunteers then choose a first, second, and third-place winner from each participating school.

RMLD hosts an awards night for the winning students, their families, and school faculty. Each winning student receives a Barnes & Noble gift card, and each participating school receives a gift certificate for art supplies.
