Public EV Charging Station Installations
In 2021, the RMLD applied for multiple MassEVIP Public Access Charging (PAC) Program grants from Massachusetts to install public Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations within its service area.
Level 2 Charging Station Grants
RMLD was awarded grants to install a total of five level 2 dual-port EV charging stations. Three stations were installed in Reading, and two were installed in Wilmington in June 2022.
Fast Charging Grants
RMLD has received preliminary notification of an award and is awaiting further details.
The grant funding covered a portion of the cost of the installations. The RMLD contributed funding and operational support.

Community Benefits
Electric vehicles offer many benefits to traditional gas-powered vehicles including reduced operating costs for drivers and reduced carbon emissions.
This initiative will expand available EV charging infrastructure as well as increase public awareness; both of which are important components to increasing the adoption of EVs. The electrification of transportation is a key component to reducing carbon emissions locally and across the Commonwealth.
Charging stations are an added amenity and are expected to attract more customers to local businesses.
