Security and Systems Engineer I

This position will assist in supporting and implementing RMLD Systems, Desktops, Applications and Security infrastructure.

Primary Responsibility for:

  • Support of desktop and systems environments.
  • Following Information Security “Best Practice”.
  • Participate in project management, technology implementation and change initiatives.
  • EDR EndPoint Discovery, and Response, XDR for Extended Detection and Response.
  • Support Microsoft, VMware, Windows 10 and 11 infrastructures.

Examples of Current Technology Environment: 

  • VMware ESXi virtualized environment.
  • Windows Server 2012,2016,2019.
  • Avaya VoIP telephony system, phones and voicemail.
  • Multi-Factor Authentication.

 

Illustrative Work Activities:

Essential work activities, pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following.  Other related duties may be assigned. 

  • Effectively participate in assigned services and activities of the Local Area Network (LAN) associated devices, Day-to-day operation telephony System; implementing, and administering of all security related items to include redundancy, Multi-factor authentication, and all related information technology hardware and software; manage and maintain data, encryption, and equipment security.
  •  Participate in technology related projects within the utility.
  • Assist with the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of all information technology and operational technology systems, including servers, PC’s, operating systems, hardware, software, peripherals and application support, and telecommunication systems.
  • Provide customer service to users concerning their access to the systems, audio-visual, internet, email, file shares, multi-factor authentication, and telephony systems; assist with problems relating to various software programs as necessary.
  • Participate in assessment and choice of the most appropriate technology to bring into RMLD and make sure that it is scalable and flexible to RMLD’s needs.
  • Provide routine information technology support functions including user basic administration, system monitoring, simple task automation, and other duties.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.  Prefer educational focus be in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or any other field that emphasizes technology management, systems design, or similar technology management education.
  • IT OEM certifications are desired.   

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the administration, management, and implementation of Microsoft OS, O365 and end user applications.
  • Experience in the electric power industry directly related to information technology and/or operational technology administration is desirable.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of utility service providers and operational technology is desired.

 

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to analyze and implement business processes.
  • Ability to effectively use analytical skills.
  • Ability to interpret tactical and strategic plans and policies.
  • Strong oral, written, and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with office procedures, and equipment including networking and information security.
  • Well-developed computer skills and excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, Power Point, and SharePoint.

  • Develops detailed knowledge of business processes, priorities, goals, and needs.

Physical Demands:

  • Capable of performing job functions for extended periods of time. 
  • Moderate physical effort may be required on an intermittent basis.

Manual Skills:

Ability to operate, maintain and configure IT hardware.

Licenses and Certifications:

Class D Driver’s license valid in MA.
