Advanced Metering

Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) is implementing advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) across the RMLD service territory. AMI is an industry-standard technology that will allow RMLD to continue to deliver reliable, low-cost, and increasingly non-carbon energy.  

With AMI, customers should see no difference in service. AMI integrates with the RMLD customer portal, where customers can view interval energy use reports. These detailed reports can be a key tool to help manage energy use.

  • AMI is a tested and widely used industry standard meter. More than 70% of meters nationwide are AMI.
  • AMI provides interval energy readings, helping RMLD customers monitor usage and find ways to save on energy bills.
  • AMI systems support the integration of connected devices, networks, and grid data.

All RMLD meters will be replaced as part of the AMI deployment. Currently, there is no option to opt out.
