Commercial Custom Rebate
Program Details
Eligible Customer Classes: Non-residential
Description: To promote energy efficiency, electrification, and reduced carbon emissions, RMLD offers rebates to qualifying non-residential customers who install EnergyStar-rated or other energy-efficient custom equipment within their facility that will result in energy savings and/or demand reduction. The rebate is available for retrofits of existing equipment only.
Incentive Amount:
The total one-time incentive is the sum of:
- First 12-month projected Energy Savings (KWH) of new equipment vs replaced equipment multiplied by the 12-month average RMLD fuel charge price ($/KWH) (at time of RMLD final inspection).
- Projected Demand Savings (KW) of new equipment vs replaced equipment multiplied by RMLD monthly PPCT demand charge ($/kw) (at time of RMLD final inspection) and then multiplied by 12 months.
Maximum Incentive: Not to exceed 50% of total installed (labor and materials) costs, excluding tax, up to $50,000.
Rebate Limitations: Limit one rebate per location every two years. Customers who receive MassSave rebates are not eligible for this rebate.

Examples of equipment categories include: ECM Evaporator Fan Motors, Evaporator Fan Controls, Air Compressors, Heat Pump Systems, Chillers, Motors, Refrigerated Air Dryers, and Variable Frequency Drives. Note that Lighting fixtures, luminaries, and lamps are excluded from this program.

Calculate Energy Savings Options"
- If you have specific equipment that needs replacing or upgrading, you may conduct energy savings calculations on your own. Or, if you'd like to get a professional energy assessment to identify energy efficiency measures, the assessment must be conducted by a third party. Learn more about RMLD's Commercial Energy Assessment Rebate.
- To qualify for a commercial retrofit rebate, customers must submit detailed calculations demonstrating the estimated energy savings and/or demand reduction from the proposed upgrades or replacements. The calculations should include:
- Baseline Energy Usage: Provide documentation of the existing system's energy consumption before upgrades or replacements.
- Projected Energy Savings: Estimate the annual energy savings and/or demand reduction resulting from new equipment or efficiency improvements.
- Methodology: Include the formulas, assumptions, and sources used to determine the savings. Calculations should follow industry standards such as Mass Save's Technical Reference Manual (TRM).
- Equipment Specifications: Provide documentation on the new equipment, including efficiency ratings and manufacturer specifications.
- Prior to implementing any upgrades or replacements, customers must submit their calculations and supporting documentation to our office for preliminary review and pre-approval. Once RMLD provides written pre-approval, customers can proceed with the upgrades or replacements.
