Electric Panel Upgrade Rebate
Program Details
Eligible Customer Classes: ALL
Description: To promote electrification by supporting customers who need to increase the amperage of their electrical panel to accommodate additional load due to the installation of an EV Charging Station, Heat Pump, or other electrical equipment, RMLD offers rebates to customers who upgrade their panel to a higher amperage.
Incentive Amount: $500
Maximum Incentive: Not to exceed 50% of total installed (labor and materials) costs excluding tax.
Rebate Limitations: Limit one rebate per meter every four years.
- Upgrade to a 200-amp standard or smart panel - $500 rebate
- Upgrade to 400-amp standard or smart panel - $500 rebate
- Sub-panels are not eligible.
- Installation must be done by a licensed electrician.
- An RMLD Utility Authorization Number (UAN) is required.
- A Town Wiring Inspection is required post-installation (A Town Electrical Permit is a prerequisite to the wiring inspection).
Pre-Installation:
- The contractor must call RMLD at 781-942-6598 to obtain a Utility Authorization Number (UAN).
- The contractor must obtain a Town Electrical Permit.
Post-Installation:
- The contractor must ensure that the Town Wiring Inspection is completed.

Required Supporting Documentation:
- Proof of Purchase (must include description of item, total cost of materials and labor, purchase date, and purchased from)
Application Deadline: Application and supporting documentation must be received within 180 days of final wiring inspection.
Payment Method: Rebate will be issued as a bill credit.
- June 1, 2025: RMLD has updated its Panel Upgrade rebate incentive. The incentives for 200-amp and 400-amp panel upgrades have been reduced from $1,000 to $1,500 to $500 for both upgrades. This change took effect on June 1, 2025. If you are upgrading your panel, consider a Smart Panel to potentially receive a higher incentive amount through our Residential Load Management Device Rebate.
- June 24, 2022 - Removal of 100-amp panel option; increased rebate amounts for 200-amp option from $500 to $1,000, increased rebate amount for 400-amp option from $750 to $1500. Increased the application deadline to 180 days of wiring inspection from 90.
