Tips for Hiring an Electrician or Contractor

RMLD is frequently asked whether it can recommend electricians and/or contractors for electrical/installation work. Unfortunately, RMLD is not able to recommend contractors or electricians. 

When choosing a contractor, following accepted best practices can help ensure the job is done safely, and professionally. Look for a licensed and insured contractor with strong references and confirm they have experience with your specific type of project. Get multiple quotes, ask for a written estimate and timeline, and make sure all work complies with local regulations and safety standards. Clear communication and transparency are key to a successful project.

RMLD recommends following these best practices:

  1. Obtain at least three competitive quotes.
  2. Check references.
  3. Verify that the person or company is properly licensed by checking the appropriate registry:
  4. Make sure the person or company is bonded and insured. 
  5. Secure an appropriate written agreement or contract before beginning work.
