MONTHLY POWER SUPPLY COSTS

from "What to Expect in Your 2023 Monthly Electric Bill"

RMLD purchases power from the wholesale electricity market daily. These costs are passed through to customers without markup and are adjusted monthly - click here to see the current monthly power supply adjustments

RMLD anticipates our power supply costs to increase by 2 percent in 2023 as compared to actual 2022 costs.

The majority of RMLD’s power is purchased through long-term contracts which are less expensive and provide more stable pricing in a market that can be volatile. RMLD also uses reserve funds to help dampen the volatility of these monthly rates.

Wholesale power supply cost charges include:

Fuel-related charges – The wholesale cost of energy, which is typically higher during the summer and winter months when more electricity is being used. The cost of non-carbon certificates is included in the fuel charge, and will increase as RMLD increases retirement levels annually to comply with regulations.

Purchased Power Capacity & Transmission Charge (PPCT) – The wholesale cost of generation assets and transmission in our New England region and is based on RMLD’s system use during the annual peak and monthly peaks and externally set wholesale costs.

NYPA Credit – Based on how much hydroelectric power is produced by the New York Power Authority which is seasonal (lowest in late summer, highest in spring).
