Customer Rebate ProgramRMLD offers a variety of energy efficiency and rebate programs to residential customers (summarized below). For more information on our residential rebate programs, click here to view our Energy Efficiency Guidelines for Residential Programs.

Energy Star Appliance Rebate Program:

If you’re in the market for a new appliance, pick an energy-efficient model and you may qualify for a rebate from RMLD. We offer rebates ranging from $25 to $500 on most common household appliances that are ENERGY STAR rated. Some restrictions apply.

No-Cost Residential Home Energy Assessment:

RMLD offers no-cost home energy assessments to residential customers who are interested in implementing energy efficiency and conservation measures. During the ongoing COVID-19 public health crisis, these assessments are being performed VIRTUALLY. Click here for more information. The assessment consists of an evaluation of the home to identify efficiency measures that will help to conserve energy and lower your electric bill. Information about the various residential rebate programs is also provided.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are served by a gas utility that is a Mass Save member (such as National Grid), we recommend that you obtain a home energy assessment through Mass Save because it will evaluate items in your home that are specific to your heating type. Visit Mass Save's website to schedule.

Cordless Electric Yard Equipment Rebate Program:

The new Cordless Electric Yard Equipment Rebate Program has been launched as a part of RMLD's ongoing electrification efforts and is the first of its kind in Massachusetts. The program launched on April 27, 2020, and is available to all customers.

Air-Source Heat Pump Rebate Program:

Air-Source heat pumps are an efficient technology to heat and cool a home and offer many advantages over traditional oil, propane, or electric resistance systems including cost savings, improved efficiency, and reduced carbon emissions.  RMLD is expanding its existing heat pump rebate effective April 1, 2020, to offer more attractive incentives to customers with the goal of reducing carbon emissions.  A summary of rebates (not to exceed 50% of total installation costs) is as follows:

Electrical Panel Upgrade Rebate Program:

This rebate supports residential customers who may need to upgrade their electrical panel to a higher amperage to accommodate additional load from electrification activities such as installing an EV charging station, heat pump, or other electrical equipment. Effective April 1, 2020, customers upgrading their electrical panel are eligible for rebates of $300 for a 100-amp, $500 for a 200-amp, and $750 for a 400-amp. Both standard and smart panels are eligible. No rebate is to exceed 50% of total installation costs.

MLP Solar Rebate Program: 

RMLD has partnered with the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) to offer customers a limited-time rebate for the installation of solar systems that are 25 kilowatts (kW) or less in size. The amount of the rebate will be based on the size of the system installed, and equates to $1.20 per watt. Rebates are not to exceed 50% of the total installed costs of the system and are capped at a maximum of $30,000. Qualifying conditions such as access to direct sunlight should be considered and are specified in the program’s technical requirements. 

DOER extended the program so applications can now be submitted through 12/30/2020, and all projects must be completed by 12/30/2021. Customers who installed systems with an operation date of November 27, 2018 or later may apply for the rebate. Residential Renewable Energy Rebate Program:*

*PLEASE NOTE: All solar rebate applications for systems that are 25 kW DC or less will be processed solely under the MLP Solar Rebate Program until the Program’s completion. Residential customers who install renewable energy sources other than solar may be considered under this program. Please contact RMLD for more information. 

Customers who install solar panels, wind generators, or other renewable energy systems in their homes may be eligible for RMLD rebates of up to $2,000. Certain restrictions apply. Contact RMLD’s Integrated Resources Division at 781-942-6598 to learn more.

Plug-in Electric Vehicle Charger Rebate:

RMLD offers residential customers a rebate of up to $750 towards the purchase of a home Electric Vehicle charging station. The chargers that qualify for this rebate are Level 2, 13 amp or greater, Network Enabled (i.e., has the capability to connect to the internet and transmit and receive information), and must be installed at the customer's residence within RMLD’s service territory.

In exchange for receiving the rebate, the customer is required to sign up for RMLD’s Residential Time-of-Use (TOU) Rate for a minimum of one year as well as agree to provide or authorize their EV charging data be provided to the RMLD. TOU rates are designed to empower customers to shift electric usage from on-peak to off-peak hours for a reduced rate. Off-peak hours represent 79% of the week and include all hours except Monday through Friday from 12:00 – 7:00 pm. Click here for more information on RMLD’s Time-of-Use rate.

This program is available retroactively to July 1, 2019.

RMLD reserves the right to modify or terminate RMLD Rebate Programs without prior notice based on the availability of funds and other relevant factors.

As a municipal electric utility, RMLD operates its own rebate program that is separate from privately owned electric utility rebates offered by Mass Save. As such, RMLD customers are solely eligible for electricity-related rebates offered by RMLD. RMLD customers that are served by a Mass Save participating natural gas provider may be eligible for natural gas specific rebates from Mass Save.
