RMLD Honors Local Elementary School Students Following Art Contest

The contest has provided important electrical safety education to students for over 35 years

Reading, MA, March 21, 2023 – Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) recently honored 36 students from twelve local elementary schools in Reading, North Reading, Wilmington, and Lynnfield for their winning entries into RMLD’s elementary student art contest. The ceremony was held on Tuesday, March 21. The awards were presented by General Manager Greg Phipps, Integrated Resources Director Bill Bullock, and RMLD Board of Commissioner members Philip Pacino and Chair Marlena Bita.

For the contest, fourth-grade students were asked to design a poster demonstrating their knowledge of topics presented in an educational video produced by the RMLD including electrical safety, how electricity gets to the home, and electricity and the sustainability.

A first, second, and third-place winner was selected from each participating school based on the artwork and message. Each winning student was awarded a Barnes and Noble gift card.

In recognition of the effort local schools put forth in implementing the contest, each participating school was awarded a gift certificate for art supplies and supplies were also provided for the contest. RMLD would like to thank the teachers and faculty for their continued partnership in this important educational initiative.
